Smith (also the author of The Secret Circle and Night World), The Vampire Diaries novel series centres on the life of Elena Gilbert and her relationship with two Italian vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon Salvatore. At the very beginning, Elena is still suffering from losing both her parents in a car crash she managed to survive. Her world is turned upside down by the arrival of a new student, Stefan Salvatore, to their sleepy little town of Fells Church. Elena Gilbert is a beautiful, popular, teenage, human girl who grew up in the small town of Fells Church, Virginia alongside her best friends since childhood Bonnie, Meredith, Matt, and Caroline. When Elena unexpectedly meets handsome, brooding, intense, and mysterious Stefan, who is a centuries old immortal, her life dramatically changes forever.
