First of all, Antonius is not a 4w5. Artistic tendencies and deep reflection don’t make one a 4, predominating envy does. He doesn’t even exhibit the self-preservation 4’s envy, which is used to improve oneself. I would, however, say that he trusts his feelings in a 4 fix way. He is emotionally honest and isn’t afraid of melancholy. Antonius is obviously in the head triad. He is constantly in his thoughts, asking all sorts of questions and maintaining a constant worry of not understanding the truth. I initially typed him as a 5, but quickly changed my thoughts when I noticed that he doesn’t display greed as he doesn’t seek information for its own sake, but to ease his fears. He does not exhibit any other characteristics of 5’s greed, but rather enjoys the company of other people and inquires with them about the truth – questioning them like in the scene with the painter. Instead of withdrawing into his own mind and isolating himself in it, he goes out into the world and leans from others to stay safe. Thus, he is a 6w5. As a six, he insatiably searches for answers to feel safe and secure. He doesn't feel safe due to the widespread death caused by the black plague, and he needs to find refuge in absolute truth. Therefore, his core desire is to ease fear. He seeks answers through playing chess with death and trying to reveal if there is an afterlife. This is the entire gist of his character – he is driven by fear (head triad) rather than shame (heart triad). Therefore, he’s a 6 with a 4 fix. As for his gut fix, I have trouble seeing sloth in him. He is never satisfied with current answers. If he was a 9, he would have had an easier time resting by himself rather than relying on Jof and Mia (more on that later). Instead, I would argue that he has a 1 fix since he explicitly shows a desire to do good, one last good act before death. What sort of 6 is Antonius? I would argue a social 6 since he is focused on the logic behind the afterlife – though I would understand him being a self-preservation 6. Second, Antonius does not use Fi. He challenges his beliefs through Ni and Ti. A Fi user would have an easier time developing their own moral conclusions, but Antonius seeks guidance concerning objective morality – Fe, as it is the morality he wishes to adopt. This is seen in his conversation at the confessional. In essence, he wants to harmonize his Ni and Ti with Fe – objective morality – rather than adopting his own stance and being at peace with it. This is an assumption, but he might have wanted to seek reassurance from someone who is stable in their moral stances – a Fi user. Third, Antonius’ scene where he enjoys strawberries and milk with Jof and Mia represents relief for a Se inferior type. As a Ni dominant, even when he is supposed to enjoy the present, he is thinking about the future and his future feelings regarding the moment – which an ISFP wouldn’t do. Ni doms usually struggle with living in the moment and are too future-focused. An ISFP would enjoy the present without the help of others. If anyone wants to start arguing about how Se inferiors can’t be good at physical combat (like on Aragorn’s page), don’t bother replying since I won’t respond. Thus, my vote is 6w5 INFJ, rather than 4w5 ISFP. He is still an IEI, and I would argue he’s an IEI-Ni (my second guess was ILI, but he shows no Fe PoLR). Many comments use MBTI fanfiction such as loops, grips, and shadow functions to justify him being an ISFP, which I don’t consider valid. Thank you to my wonderful girlfriend for helping me analyze him <3 EDIT: Quote that basically legitimizes him as having a 4 + 1 fix: "Double frustration. Enhances the natural line of connection to ONE and FOUR. Pairing that is the most focused on refining their ideals, pursuing higher standards. Whatever the instinctual stacking or the head type, there is a strong push toward what is considered tasteful, decent and grotesque, vulgar." He is definitely double frustration. Read up on any of the other combinations in his tritype, they fit him really well.
