I think Kuja is a sx4. According to the PDB wiki: “The Envy of the SX4 is closest to the most literal meaning of the word. When Envy comes into contact with this instinct, it produces a character who competes with others in an attempt to gain approval or recognition. They then make others suffer as an unconscious way of trying to rid themselves of painful feelings of deficiency.” Kuja fits this description well - Although he may seem 3ish prior to the unveiling of his true motives (which is probably due to a 3 wing), once Kuja’s backstory is revealed to us, we learn that his every action throughout the story was driven by his envy of Zidane, and that his ultimate goal was essentially to compete against him. Toward the end of the game, Garland reveals that he created Zidane to be a replacement for Kuja because Kuja was unable to enter Trance, and when Kuja discovered this, he felt rejected, so he abandoned Zidane on Gaia out of jealousy: (“He could not bear to see a Genome with more power than his own; he felt threatened. Kuja discarded you.”) Kuja then did everything he could to bring chaos to Gaia because he wanted to prove that he was the superior Genome: (“He rejects the meaning of his existence and tries to assert his own individuality.” / “To him, bringing war to Gaia would prove his victory over you.”) One thing that might make it seem like Kuja isn’t a 4 is his inability to “feel complex emotions” which is what Garland says made Kuja incapable of experiencing Trance. However, even if Kuja’s emotions didn’t fit the bill of “complex emotions” regarding Trance, Kuja is nonetheless a very emotional character, who dwells heavily on his suffering: (“Yesterday's sorrow constantly nears.” / “I single-handedly brought chaos into Gaia, but in the end, I'm nothing but a worthless doll!”) According to Claudio Naranjo: “The passion of Envy causes the Four to be temperamental, as they believe that they are fundamentally lacking or flawed, missing something that others have.” - “Envy in the sexual causes the individual to want to deprive others of what they envy for their own benefit, resulting in "cannibalistic" impulses and a hateful character.” Kuja is not only temperamental (“Will you two just shut up!?” / “Just you wait, Garland. And you too, Zidane. I'll exact sweet revenge upon you both for insulting me!”) but he also believes that he is lacking/flawed - We can see this in the way that he compares himself to both Garland and Zidane, and how he struggles with feelings of inferiority: (“His powers are so incredible; I cannot even come close.” / “I’m useless to this world.”) Kuja also wants to “deprive others of what he envies”, and the scene where he discovers that Garland placed a limit on his lifespan is perhaps the best example of this, as he then becomes determined to rob the world of the thing he envies most - the chance to keep living: “I won’t let this world exist without me!” “Why should the world exist without me? That wouldn’t be fair. If I die, we all die!” “I’m not going to die alone. You’re all coming with me!” Overall, I think sx4 is the Enneatype that fits Kuja best.
