ISFP, SX 6 [1/2] In my own opinion, Neytiri is a fairly solid ISFP. ENFJs are still an abstract and cerebral type, and people often forget this, leading to a perception of ENFJs as highly sensory and uninquisitive. As a result, mistyping sensors as ENFJs has become common, with some examples being: Moana (ESFP), Alita (ESFP), and Esmeralda (ESFP). ENFJs are also cognitively extroverted, an orientation which does not fit Neytiri at all. Fi Neytiri does not demonstrate a valuation of external feelings and feeling values beyond what is demanded of her customs, empathetic inclination of her species, and role as a mother. Her feeling is much more subjective than objective and is overall not predisposed to the external sentiment, wherein she is disinterested in affecting others, understanding others, appealing to others, or forming relationships. Nor does she demonstrate a consistent interpersonal curiosity or desire to examine perspectives other than her own. Due to all of the aforementioned, she is given to the dismissal and disrespect of the feelings and feeling values of those around her if said feelings are not in accordance with her own subjective feelings. In the event of differing values, she is inclined to aggression and verbally and/or physically violent conflict, rather than persuasion or diplomatic discussion; she is, again, disinterested in the emotional perspectives of others. Jung says of introverted feeling dominance: “[t]hey are mostly silent, inaccessible, hard to understand; often they hide behind a childish or banal mask, and their temperament is inclined to melancholy. They neither shine nor reveal themselves. As they are mainly guided by their subjective feelings, their true motives generally remain hidden. Their outward demeanour is harmonious, inconspicuous, giving an impression of pleasing repose, or of sympathetic response, with no desire to affect others, to impress, influence, or change them in any way. If this outward aspect is more pronounced, it arouses a suspicion of indifference and coldness, which may actually turn into a disregard for the comfort and well-being of others… The feeling of harmony, therefore, lasts only so long as the object goes its own moderate way and makes no attempt to cross the other’s path. There is little effort to respond to the real emotions of the other person; they are more often damped down and rebuffed, or cooled off by a negative value judgment. Although there is a constant readiness for peaceful and harmonious co-existence, strangers are shown no touch of amiability, no gleam of responsive warmth, but are met with apparent indifference or a repelling coldness. Often they are made to feel entirely superfluous. Faced with anything that might carry her away or arouse enthusiasm, this type observes a benevolent though critical neutrality, coupled with a faint trace of superiority that soon takes the wind out of the sails of a sensitive person.” To expound further on this, Neytiri’s interpersonal engagements and curiosity are limited to Jake and her family; she is not shown to be interested in others to any significant degree, and this is important, for she was the princess of her tribe and was therefore much more exposed to social stimuli than the average tribesman. And, despite being the princess of the tribe, she rebelled often and disregarded their customs, and furthermore exhibited no interest in reforming the culture of her tribe to align with the values she saw as more significant, but instead chose to plainly do what her subjective values dictated. This dominance of introverted feeling does not mean, however, that such renders an individual entirely disinterested in contact with the external. Jung says, also, of introverted feeling dominance: “Since this type appears rather cold and reserved, it might seem on a superficial view that such women have no feelings at all. But this would be quite wrong; the truth is, their feelings are intensive rather than extensive. They develop in depth. While an extensive feeling of sympathy can express itself in appropriate words and deeds, and thus quickly gets back to normal again, an intensive sympathy, being shut off from every means of expression, acquires a passionate depth that comprises a whole world of misery and simply gets benumbed. It may perhaps break out in some extravagant form and lead to an astounding act of an almost heroic character, quite unrelated either to the subject herself or to the object that provoked the outburst.” Furthermore, Neytiri is more reactive to her environment than proactive, responding to stimuli in her environment rather than seeking them out; this attitude is exacerbated by the passion of fear peculiar to E6s.
