Hi:) In this comment I will explain why I believe Moana is an ENFJ and not an ESFP through multiple examples. Keep in mind that Moana is only a character and not a real person, and that this is my own perspective on the way her character is portrayed. 1. Moana seems to have a thirst for adventure and may seem selfish and impulsive to some people but throughout the entire movie, she was self sacrificing (through impulse) and self forgetting (inferior introverted judging function/ fi or ti). 2. Her quest across the ocean was not due to her own personal interests, instead she pursued this adventure to save her island(Fe) and to follow her calling (Ni). Moana was called by the ocean when she was little, which is why she was always drawn to it. Since then, she was obsessed with her purpose and figuring out why she was called and what she needed to do, a typical trait of a high ni user. In the beginning of the movie, she was shown in many scenes helping the people on her island, doing things for them that would normally make someone unhappy after long hours of doing it, but she kept pushing to help without complaining (Fe and Se loop with Ti inf /not thinking about what she thinks about it.) Eventually, she is shown coming to terms with what she is called to do (reconnecting with her Ni getting out of her loop) despite how it may make the people in her life feel (Ni is the only thing that will override fe and se loops for an ENFJ) because she knows that in the long run saving the island is what will make the biggest difference in their lives. The fact that she trusted that calling is a sign of high Ni and not Ni inf. 3. Also, her whole childhood was a fight between her Fe and Ni, doing what everyone expected of her, but then running to the ocean because it is calling her. Its a back and forth fight. Enfjs struggle between Fe and Ni in their younger lives because they get stuck wanting to please everyone around them but deep down they want to be who they are and pursue big dreams (ni) but are scared of disappointing, losing, and leaving others behind. For Moanas case, her duty was to become what her parents wanted her to be the way they wanted her to do it, but Moana felt she should lead/save/help them a different way. 4. Enfjs have a savior complex, due to their need to help people by adopting a feeling of a "calling" to devote their lives to others (Fe Ni and Se) which is very apparent in Moana. Esfps want to enjoy life and do what fulfills them in the moment. They would be the free spirit child who wants to explore and adventure without purpose. They dont enjoy tying themselves down to a theoretical purpose or future vision, they just like to "do" and "be". If Moana was an Esfp, she wouldnt have explored to save the island, she wouldve explored just to explore. All Se doms I know hate planning for the future and are go with the flow type people. Moana is high strung, feels responsible for everyone around her (fe dom) and doesnt think about what she wants (ti inf not high fi). 5. Another reason I believe Moana is an Fe dom with Ni is because she is very intuned with Maui's feelings and deep pain. She used her Fe and Ni to understand his perspective and knew exactly what to say to motivate him and help him get through his pain and self doubt. Im not saying that an ESFP wouldnt be empathetic but they wouldnt do it in the way moana did it. Moana detached herself from the Mai's situation, completely viewing his pain from his perspective. An ESFP would sympathize in an "ive been through this before" kind of way, because fi relates reality to their own life and morals. Fe detaches from oneself (low ti) and when paired with Ni comes across as a counselor/motivator/coach. Enfjs are skilled at motivating people by validating ones experience and emotions (fe Ni). 6. She was also able to discern that Te ka was actually Tafiti (using ni) and then felt deep empathy for her when walking to Te Ka, trusting that her intuition wasn't going to get her killed (which was another theme throughout the entire movie). There are many other points throughout the movie that points to her being an ENFJ. She is a very clear example of what a real ENFJ looks like imo. I'm open to you questioning and challenging my opinion so please comment if you disagree and why! I hope this helps:)
