(new argument coming soon 19/1/26) jimmy is a sexual 7. at the start of the movie, we learn that jimmy's family and friends had been brutally killed, resulting in trauma that went unfixed for years. to cope with this, jimmy develops child like mannerisms, and a fighting mechanic along with a cult that mimics an interest he had as a child: teletubbies. his cult is seen wearing colors from the teletubbies show, something associated with his childhood. along with that reference, he holds onto key items from his childhood... from those traumatic experiences. he keeps with him his father's cross (though it is now turned upside-down,) signifying the damage done to one of his victim's, but also a reference to st. peter's cross. in st. peter's context, he viewed himself as someone unworthy to die as the same way Jesus had. when we take jimmy's name into abbreviated form, we get j.c., which looks like Jesus Christ. jimmy sees himself as a savior, as someone meant to lead. he leads with a childish mentality, treating his violence towards alphas as a game, as something that's meant to be role-played. in doing this, he forgets about the reality he's stuck in. reality turns into ruthlessness, which then leads to a sadistic pleasure. "he is especially witty at making fun of himself. he has little shame and makes fun of his own faults or defects as a way of taking iron from them. he is adept at parodying his own life. it would seem that the sexual E7 does not know how to be anywhere other than the joke. always sharpening everything, the sweetener, useful in so many moments, ends up cloying. the abuse of humor makes him invasive, impertinent, and inadequate in many moments in which that attitude does not apply." ->sx7 wiki. jimmy's appearance fits this quote. his appearance isn't just for fun, or for aesthetic purposes. it's symbolic of his age regression, of his inability to cope. of the fact that his morals turn evil because that is what the world has shaped him into. when you compare him to spike, you can see parallels between them. both are forced to live through unfortunate circumstances in the midst of an apocalypse. however, spike's method of living stems from love. he witnessed his mother's death, but learnt that death can be tied to love. he is not vengeful, he is accepting, he lets his heart be filled with warmth. he was given the opportunity to be loved. jimmy however, never received that. he was told only to run, or allow himself to be eaten. all he knew was survival, never how to love, never how to give. only to take. so with this in mind, he felt the need to appeal to others, to form a cult in which he could be valued while focusing on the survival aspects.
