Source Video: I Hate Reading: https://youtu.be/SxFvKdObTmg?si=Viba0G0tnwOypWhn "But, the more I had to read more cryptic books in my spare time, where the symbolism is on the color of the main character's curtains, and I'm not even observant enough to realize they HAD curtains...led me to not really have fun and also make me feel like an idiot. I like my subtlety like I like my coffee. Splashed in my face. How am I supposed to know the letter A stands for Adultery? I dunno, it could mean...a woman for all I know! ASPARGUS!" Se presents the data and Ni conjectures that data into an unconscious conclusion for the user. As we see by this, her attention is not even at this practice, that's not how she's perceiving the book. Her eyes are not in the data, the raw data that's there (Se), but since she's an Si type, what catches her attention isn't the whole point, it's other things, they're on this whole "correct perception" thing. Which is actually mentioned as an Si-Ne sign. <<"Their final objective we can call "correct perception", meaning a perception that adequately explains every facet of reality. The correct perception provides inner stability in a varying world.">> (Motes and Beams, Michael Pierce) What she sees as objective is not the data (Se), but the fact that there is an inference there (Ne). Se-Ni users conjecture subjective hypotheses based on the raw data, but we see that her focus is not even on this whole guessing game Ni plays, because she sees the data in a more subject oriented way (Si) and the inference is supposed to be more objective (Ne). While Se-Ni decides on what's true based on analysing the present data and conjecturing only that data, Ne-Si prefers to not engage in such a thing, since they don't make those unconscious connections subjectively. They see such a thing as ignoring the other possible angles they have not explored, because they are limited to the data presented to conjecture from. When it comes to her experiences, she describes more about how it affects her, than just how it simply is (Si>Se), which is what probably leads to "I'm not even observant enough to realize they HAD curtains...". Her perception is more retelling than photographic. "The Perception of the environment for Introverted Sensation is not fleeting or photographic, it's more of a historical record, a diary." Because only what calls attention is determined by the subject's psyche. Still on the subject of Si being an important function for her we have... "There are a couple summers where I would fake reading entire books because I didn't wanna read that much. There was this one about dragons called Secret Country or something, and I still remember that looking at the cover would put me in a bad mood because of hatred association." "I think the association of reading as a necessity or some sort of punishment, has deep rooted itself in me, and now I just feel like reading isn't fun, or I'm in trouble for something, even though I live alone." <<"The attention of the Introverted Sensor is never captivated by flashy presentation, but by personal connection. It is felt everything that something "represents" to them, more than the thing itself. To quote Claude Monet: In Paris, everyone is concerned with what they see and hear, for as strong as it is. However, what I'm doing here, has the merit of not matching with anyone, since it's a sincere expression of how I myself experienced it.">>(Motes and Beams, Michael Pierce) ("And I still remember that looking at the cover would put me in a bad mood, because of hatred association.") As for Fi, well...it's on the nose, quite often with her. "When the school started forcing us to read books, it kinda took the fun away from it. I don't like being told what to do with my free time, especially if that includes reading a book written in the 1940's, with cliff notes to decode, that I had to use just to realize that all the animals are communists." (There's also a fun little bit of Ne here in "Just to realize that all the animals are communists", because she is highlighting the objective inference thing, the conotations of the book are not related to her subject, rather they are just told as they are (Ne>Ni), unlike her actual experiences, which are just told relating to herself and how it affects her (Si>Se). "I started hating reading so much, that I'd rather do literally nothing than read a book." "I guess I could have had at least a decent time actually reading the dang book, but I guess it turned into a dignity thing." "I actually read the first few books of the series on my own, and remember really liking 'em. I would read 'em any chance I got. But, as soon as I was FORCED to read this one, I decided I'd rather just waste my time, and sit alone, rebelling against reasonable parenting." Classic Fi rebelling irrationally. Agency is the most important factor for Fi's decision making. She liked the book, but being forced to read it was the unforgivable thing.
