James Randi was neither INTP or ENTP, because both types require either auxiliary Ne or dominant Ne. His entire body of work was grounded in preserving the traditional foundations of magic and illusion as art and entertainment, while subjecting claims to strict control and scientific testing in order to expose deception. It is a common assumption that types with dominant Ti are primarily driven by a search for truth. However, an NTP type tends to operate in a more theoretical and exploratory manner than Randi did. His approach was not centered on theoretical variation or conceptual expansion, but on practical verification through controlled conditions. There is little evidence in his public work or statements that suggests a strong Ne influence. He did not consistently display openness to abstract reinterpretations, alternative frameworks, or radical shifts in perspective. His approach remained stable and focused on maintaining clear boundaries regarding what magic and illusion represent. This pattern aligns more closely with Si dominance, where established systems, accumulated experience, and defined structures are prioritized. His ethical stance can be associated with a tertiary Fi, expressed through a personal sense of integrity regarding the proper use of illusion as entertainment and the rejection of its misuse for deception or fraudulent claims. Combining this with his emphasis on empirical testing and practical verification, a classification closer to ISTJ appears more consistent with his behavioral patterns than ESTJ or any NTP type. I’m not a native English speaker, so I can’t analyze James Randi in terms of how he used to communicate in order to get a better idea of what he truly thought or why he did things. So I’m not very sure whether he is an ISTJ, INTP, ISTP, or something similar. I’m open to any corrections regarding my perspective.
