The whole book is him being defensive against society, being analytical of his environment, and trying to not ruffle too many feathers in the process. For the ESXP votes, I understand it in the few instances of impulsiveness in the beginning when he’s on the run and going by his instincts, but for pretty much the rest of the book, when has he ever failed to keep to himself and quietly observe his environment and its power dynamics? His instances with analyzing Roland are most telling to me. I think there are many times when he’s analyzing that he comes up with an insight about patterns in particular people, which I just find way too demonstrative of Ni for him to be an ESXP. Also come on, how tf is he not E6 over E8, he is so uncertain and validly concerned about what might happen next. Idk how people think this dude is the same core enneagram as Roland, when he clearly displays SO much more carefulness and balanced decision making. The main times that Conner cares about asserting his autonomy is because of Roland LITERALLY THREATENING CONNOR OR THE PEOPLE AROUND HIM. Most of the time, Connor’s core priority is finding some semblance of safety from Roland or his other enemies. The only times he’s assertive outside of being directly threatened is to reach his core objective, not because he has a complex surrounding his inferiority like Roland clearly does as an E8. The only possibility of him being E8 is Sp8, but even then, I still don’t see any complex surrounding inferiority or a need to prove himself even when unthreatened. If my memory is wrong however, make your own decision of course.
