Justifying ENTJ vote( part 1) Te and Fe dominant: both functions tend to worry about social values but the motivation for them to do so differs. Te is a function that focuses mainly on problem solving(T) and it also does it so by creating standards that can be applied to a wide variety of situations(E). This desire for order makes a Te dom appreciate social norms that make communication in social situations predictable and ones that provide a solid and effective foundation for maintaining society Fe is a function that focuses on the human aspects of life: making judgments of value, worth and integrity(F) and Fe does it so by guiding their judgements thorough criteria which ensure social harmony, and it also applies standards that can be applied almost universally (E). As we can see Te cares about strong and well thought social norms because of its systematic nature, while Fe cares about it because of a need for connection. This duality, a lot of times, do not interfere with the rules created, but with the way they get to those rules. An example: “you must say thank you after receiving help from someone”, Te might like this rule because it makes interactions predictable and effective, Fe might like this rule because it’s a good way of showing gratitude and care. After briefly defining the behavior of Te dominant and Fe dominant, I shall ask a question, which of these descriptions fits with Shizuka’s intention for helping Yukinoshita and Hachiman? I’d argue for the one that corresponds with Te, and I have some points that lead me to this conclusion: 1, she sees the condition of those two as a mere “problem”, 2, a quote that really shows clearly how she sees social situations. Point number one can easily be expanded by comparing her( ENTJ) view of the hachiman and yukinoshita’s situation with hayato’s(exfj). Shizuka is really practical in defining, initially, what is wrong with the situation of those two, in the case of his problem she basically says that Hachima won’t be able to function in society with his distorted view of people, and in her case, Hiratsuka says that yukinoshita rigid moral standards, and her perfectionism will only bring distaste and isolation from other people. While we can see that, in the majority of time, Hiratsuka deals with the problem objectively, Hayato goes by a different path. He always gets to involved in the situation, feeling guilty about not being able to help yukinoshita earlier in life, trying to understand hachiman’s point of view, getting pissed off when hachiman uses a method that hurts Minami Sagami, himself and the dynamics of the class while trying to solve yukinoshita’s problem in the festival… This tendency to naturally make value judgments and the desire of maintaining the harmony of the group represents his Fe. Hiratsuka’s tendency to show care for her students and to honor her societal duty as a teacher, by problem solving in a way that involves little value judgment shows her Te. Point number two, the quote is from volume four of the novel, but it is also said in the anime. The context of this quote is that Hachiman, Yuigahama and Hukinoshita had to collaborate with their classmates to take care of children, he was complaining about being unable to get along with his classmates so hiratsuka said: “You’re mistaken, Hikigaya. There’s no need to get along with them. I said handle them. Learn not to antagonise or ignore them but to get through the experience intact in a casual, businesslike way. That is what it means to adapt to society.”
