My interpretation of Ni vs Si is this: Ni and Si are pretty similar in a way, but Si is pretty misunderstood sometimes because "sensing" or "sensor" isn't very fitting when talking about functions, sure, fits well for Se, but not for Si So in my opinion, sensors are just those who prefer experience, and intuitives those who prefer ideas. Other typing systems already differentiate openness to ideas from openness to experience. So then, Si becomes a function that is about observing gathered experience introspectively (which would explain why everyone thinks it is all about memory) while Ni would be a function about observing ideas introspectively. Now, I'm an INTJ, and I've payed a lot of attention to ISTJ friends so that I could understand our differences in how we think. My conclusion being, that when I'm looking at the past I only pay attention to my impressions and ideas about what happened, while ISTJs tend to pay attention to every detail and reach conclusions based only on their past experiences. For example, if a friend is too impulsive and says or does things they regret whenever they get drunk, I've heard an ISTJ friend explaining it this way: "He always does this and that when he gets drunk, next time we shouldn't let him do it, it's a bad idea" going straight to the point While an INTJ (I'm using what I said as an example) would say something like: "He probably has a lot of things in his mind, and either wants to numb himself, or alcohol just works differently for him and he can't control himself the way others do. In any case, we know he regrets what happened, if he ever starts drinking again I hope reminding him what could happen is enough, he needs to learn on his own how to be responsible" My point being, when trying to differentiate between an ISTJ and an INTJ, we shouldn't only think about wether that person looks to the past often, but how that person does it as well Grey always gives insights and impressions about what he's explaining, and if he's looking at past events, he does it in order to relate it to some idea, or to support some argument he was making, also he skips the details and manages to fit a lot of concepts in a little amount of words. The only way I could consider him being an ISTJ is if he explains things similarly to what he's already seen in a book or a podcast, but I doubt this is the case.
