As someone who's maternal side of the family is Irish and Catholic, I found it surprising that Burke himself wasn't Catholic. I went down a rabbit hole and found that he and his dad were Anglican but his Mum and sister were Catholic. He heavily supported Catholic emancipation which would've given Catholics rights they didn't currently have such as the right to vote etc. I also found out that the Catholic emancipation act didn't come into place until the 1820s. Burke was very tolerant of other religions and cultures, particularly when you consider the time he was living in. He spoke highly of all religions and faiths including the Catholic church, Islam and Hinduism. He was accused of being a fake protestant and a secret Catholic and I read somewhere that he was assaulted once for supporting Catholic emancipation. Overall I see Burke as a very wise man and feel quite sorry for him and wonder whether he was Catholic but repressed it just so he could become an MP.

Edmund Burke (12 January [NS] 1729 – 9 July 1797) was a British-Irish statesman born in Dublin, as well as an author, orator, political theorist, and philosopher who, after moving to London, served as a member of parliament (MP) for many years in the House of Commons with the Whig Party.
