He's a Te auxiliary and Fi tertiary, so if he feels like someone has done something wrong, he probably doesn't see the point in trying to rehabilitate them and it's a waste of time to even try because he knows they will almost certainly do it again in the future (Ni hero). That is the difference between him and John, who is an INFJ. The traps Hoffman sets are brutal like Johns, but don't really offer victims an opportunity to reflect and learn their lesson. He just does it out of anger and revenge. In Saw 3D, whenever Simone, who was forced to cut off her arm, went to the survivors support group, she is upset because she doesn't understand what her trap was even supposed to teach her. She's just angry she had to go through it. Meanwhile, Johns victims found something positive that came out of what they went through, because they were given a chance to reflect and change their perspective.
バイオグラフィー
Jigsaw's second canonical apprentice, and the third Jigsaw Killer (after Amanda Young). Hoffman started out as a cop assigned to the Jigsaw case. He used the knowledge he has of Jigsaw by virtue of following the case to murder his sister's killer using Jigsaw's MO. The frame job catches John's attention, who blackmails Hoffman into helping him. Shortly afterwards, Hoffman became a willing apprentice. At some point, Hoffman began to fall in love with his carnage and, like Amanda, didn't completely buy into Jigsaw's philosophy. After Jigsaw and Amanda's deaths, Hoffman continued John's work until Saw 3D. His true identity as Jigsaw's successor was first discovered by the FBI in Saw VI, but (due to him immediately destroying evidence in response) was only revealed to the Metropolitan Police Department at large in 3D.
