The people calling him an ISFP are overrelying on a literal interpretation of his “be here now” Hindu philosophy, which is not an indicator of his personality type—that’s just Hindu philosophy. He’s an INFJ because his Ni is too overwhelming to be tertiary. By his own will, George Harrison quite literally committed his whole life to a single idea, an idea that contained a whole system for how to live. This idea may include reminders to focus on the present, but that’s often what attracts INFJs to eastern philosophy in the first place—due to inferior Se, they are often filled with dread about the projected future and need guidance through the here and now. His desire to spread his message far and wide with the intention of guiding others to enlightenment shows clear signs of Ni + Fe. Notice how, in interviews, he often downplays sensory events as trivial distractions from a cosmic truth. His ability to escape into his spirit while things were crumbling around him demonstrates stronger Ni than Se—the goal may be to embrace the present, but for George this often meant diminishing sensory events in favor of a greater awareness. Hinduism played no subservient role in his art but rather became, in his mind, the “art” itself. More examples of Fe: He created the first-ever large-scale benefit concert simply because he was asked to (by Ravi Shankar). He produced an album for the Radha Krishna temple because he became friends with its members and wanted to promote their message. He may have clashed with the other Beatles, but maintained strong lifelong friendships with Dylan, Clapton, Petty, etc., even after Eric Clapton betrayed him in the most personal kind of way. Some have pointed out how frustrated he got in the Get Back documentary, as if frustration somehow confers Fi. George had at that point spent years giving his best songs to other people to avoid conflict with the other Beatles (Fe), and he was tired of being treated as lesser when he had a lot he wanted to say. Anyone will superficially appear to be an Fi user under such conditions. But the overall picture of his life story is that of a spiritualist who found the master key to unlock all meaning and purpose, who saw a complex and abstract yet straight and narrow ideological path he believed could help everyone else, and who followed this path to the end. In other words, an INFJ. (Side note: There’s a great interview on YouTube where he and Lennon both discuss the Maharishi and transcendental meditation, and I think it’s instructive for distinguishing Ne (Lennon) from Ni (Harrison). Both want to sell transcendental meditation to the public, but while Lennon cracks jokes and lists ways meditation can help creativity or benefit himself, George Harrison glares at Lennon for missing the point, and frames meditation through existential, be-all end-all terms. It’s worth noting that George rarely discusses himself or gives a self-centered reason for his beliefs. He treats his ideological quest with the kind of ‘a priori’ seriousness and commitment that could only come from an Ni dom.)
バイオグラフィー
George Harrison (25 February 1943 – 29 November 2001) was an English guitarist, singer-songwriter, and producer who achieved international fame as the lead guitarist of #TheBeatles. Often referred to as "the quiet Beatle", Harrison embraced Indian culture and helped broaden the scope of popular music through his incorporation of Indian instrumentation and Hindu-aligned spirituality in the Beatles' work. Although the majority of the band's songs were written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, most Beatles albums from 1965 onwards contained at least two Harrison compositions.
