The comment section of anything in relation to this movie always drives me crazy with the ignorance. I didn't mind the movie but I feel that the book more accurately encapsulates the message and tone of the relationship that was intended to have been portrayed. The movie's fans often misunderstand that is is supposed to be more raw, screwed up and unusual than the way they see it, therefore providing a breeding ground for angry people that want to say you shouldn't idealize the relationship. It's not meant to be idealized. It is supposed to be a depiction of adolescent heartbreak and genuine and unabashed feelings/desire which is not always pretty. People take the movie adaptation too lightly without considering the real meaning of the book/story. I mean at one point in the book Elio fantazised about Oliver being paralyzed in a wheelchair. The critics and the die hard fans are quite immature in equal amounts because they don't really THINK about why they like or don't like it. Just take it as it is.
