Dakota Johnson and Andrew Garfield recently had an interesting conversational interview, where at one point Dakota mentions how it takes a lot of effort to be private these days. Andrew explains that sometimes when he's approached by someone asking him if he is who he is, he denies that he is in fact Andrew Garfield in hopes that he will be able to have an "actual conversation" with the person. But he also says there are times when he's confessed his identity yet doesn't enjoy doing that. See here, Andrew: "But sometimes I'm just like, 'Yeah, I am (Andrew Garfield), and I'm going to disappoint you now.'" Dakota: "Why do you feel like you would disappoint them?" Andrew: ". . . [Because] I give myself permission to be ordinary, to be a person, to—" Dakota: "But don't you think that would make people feel that you're more grounded and more of a human?" Andrew: "A lot of the time, it does do that." As you can see. Dakota with Se-Ni axis for her 2nd and 3rd slot functions allows her to be more grounded when making assessments of interactions with others. She isn't entertaining the idea as much of being idolized in someone else's eyes. She comes off down-to-earth, in this way. Andrew has Ne-Si, so he is constantly exploring the different avenues in which conversations can proceed. So when someone approaches him, his Ne is already exploring the ideas of what the conversation might become. And being Fi-Ne frames things as regret avoidance. So if he feels it's better to lie about his identity in a conversation, he will do so. Because he might regret telling the person the truth. In lying, the things that he values will be protected and promoted (being ordinary, being a person), and harm to them is prevented. And in the end, after Dakota points out the inherent humanity of his existence as a real person, he concedes, understanding Dakota's point, and realizing that most of the time, it's not such a big deal. But it's so funny to me too, because Dakota still doesn't quite understand his thought process, especially after he's just agreed with her. And she hasn't admitted to doing the same thing (lying to someone about her name). On the contrary, Dakota: "Do you ever feel bad when you lie to someone? [Lying] that you're not who you are?" Andrew: "Never." Dakota: "Never? You don't ever feel guilty? Like, oh, I should've just said, 'Yeah, that's who I am.'" (Now, here Andrew basically explains his Ne-Si axis) Andrew: "No. Never. If someone's like, 'Hey, are you Andrew Garfield?' And I can tell by the way the energy with which they're asking, if I am the Andrew Garfield they're looking for, or if they are actually asking if I'm me. Does that make sense? I'm me. And then there is this thing, 'Andrew Garfield,' that people can get agitated about or excited about. And if they're asking in that way, I'm like, 'No, I'm not that.' So actually, I don't feel like I'm lying." Dakota gives a very unconvincing "yeah" afterward. LOL
