I could see inferior Ti (and perhaps dominant Si) influencing his decision to stay with Virginia. You see Fe in typical southern gentlemen persona (for a lack of a better word). Also, his defense of slavery, which was when he describes it as immoral but better for black people, feels like a Fe justification. Comparisons to Grant are interesting. 1.) While Grant preferred a constant moving offensive strategy, Lee was much more cautious. Yes, part of that was forced on them. Grant needed to be on the offense and Lee needed to be on the difference. Still, just because the situations required men of certain temperaments doesn't mean that those temperaments are irrelevant to type. Lee was naturally suited for this more defensive approach due to the cautious nature of dominance Si. 2.) Lee was a better tactician and Grant was the better strategist. I can't at all justify this, but I sort of this as being partly due to Lee's inferior intuition vs Grant's inferior thinking.
