She needs to go up by herself starting from the second floor, so I take her to the second floor." "This dish is very sweet, so it makes you fat.“ / "Ok, let me get food. You continue eating.” / "Have you eaten this before? It's spicy." "I've been a vegan for 6 years. The reason I'm vegan is because my kid is, and my wife is. If I'm the only person who eats meat, it would be odd." Q: Wouldn't the doctor tell her that she won't get enough nutrition if she only eats veggies while being pregnant? "The doctor did say it, but she believes (in veganism). This is about beliefs, and it would be a pressure to explain it to other people." "I was the producer (of ‘The White Storm'), and initially I didn't think about participating in the acting, because I was doing ‘Shock Wave' at the time. Louis Koo was already confirmed to be one of the characters. / The reason I decided (to take up the role) was because if I acted alongside him, the feeling of the whole movie would be better. You need someone (with status) to put pressure to make things better." "I can accept any script, because if you give me a role, I will think a lot into it. An actor shouldn't be limited to certain roles, because there are many different types of movies, comedy, drama, erotic, martial arts, violence, any script is fine for me. Originally, I was supposed to star in the film ‘Happy Together' (a bl movie) starring Tony Leung and Leslie Cheung. I even signed the contract. My role was probably Leslie's role. I didn't feel sad about it, because I trust myself. I think the director lost a chance to discover something good about me. If it happened now, I'd probably not be able to (take on such a role), maybe because I'm a father now. I have more pressure. I used to be a good actor, but now I think I can't anymore, I have to be a good father. I can't take these roles anymore. I think nobody doesn't have these burdens." "After I fell down the horse (and got injured), I discovered, for example how the market sees my injury, I can see it clearly. (Q: Is public reaction the same as you expected?) Yes. People's prayers, support and acceptance, I think is the same as expected. People who are so far from me, my fans, who may not have a chance to meet me up close, they would worry about me. But the investors, they would calculate, how much lost they have incurred for investing on me. People would say to me "I've never thought that investing on Andy Lau would cause me to lose money", and I would say "me neither". And then you would realize, that relationships and connections have "extents". Friends have rankings. The concept of "friend" is very wide." "For singing, I think it is a cold job. It is rather lonely. For example if I'm a popular singer, as I age, (my popularity) will pass by like a meteor." Q: So singing, to you, is a job where you can be more free-spirited? As an individual? "Yes, when I am on stage, I can be (picky), "you should remind me of this", "when should my in-ear go silent", in these 3 minutes, there can't be any mistakes. In the past I was more serious. If I made 5 mistakes on stage, I would feel frustrated for 5 months. The thing I hate the most is singing the wrong lyrics. I don't dare to look at the lyrics screen. Whenever I sing, I have to practise 2-3 months, so that I can remember the lyrics without having to look at it. In the past I would get mad on stage. I would look frustrated when I made a mistake, and I would shush at the audience if they were too loud." "One time I messed up the key (sang one key higher than needed) and couldn't reach the high note. There were 8 reporters there. So I told them let's sing this song again next time, at the HIGHER key. So the second time, I invited them to listen to me sing the song again on the higher key. And I was able to sing it!" "No matter who you are, where you are, if you live in this world, not many people can let go (of people's criticisms). Not many people. Maybe I don't have the skills to, like (if I listened to) Jacky Cheung's advice that "singing is like that", I wouldn't have to search for so many years, I would've been able to put down my ego."
