Dominant Fi? Pete’s personality disorder SPECIFICALLY consists of his severe lack of identity. I think we’re looking at an ESFJ, and here’s why: ▪️Dominant Fe| To compensate for the absence of his sense of identity and sentiment, Pete expects emotions to be triggered by external factors. Unlike high Fi users, who prefer to experience emotions strictly on their own terms, he is very, VERY dependent of outside conditions. “The only time I feel anything is when I hear them choke on their own blood... unable to talk.” His relationship with Ella also evolved exactly into that (Ne had influence in that as well, I’ll talk about it later): he thought that if he put himself into certain positions, he might’ve felt something. The only way he was able to define himself is in relation to his connections with other people. With Ella and with his mother for example. Fe’s searching for sources of emotion sets the tone for his entire psyche, that’s why I place it as his dominant function. Furthermore, they way he erased individual distinctions between himself and Ella, instantly spotted her darkness and used this common ground to argue is a strong indicative of Fe. ▪️Si/Ne middle axis| - Si: It’s not a coincidence that he used lilies. He explained that those flowers were the only thing her mother cared about, BUT him bringing up this same memory with every murder isn’t an unconscious manifestation of trauma, but a conscious effort to recall and relive a strong, stored impression (Si). This is why his Si is auxiliary: because that position in the function stack is always conscious, which in Pete’s case means that he used it to ground Fe’s motivation to a personal content of his cognition. Apart from that he shows classic signs of high Si: he’s meticulous and careful (the room for lilies show exactly that), he’s doing a carefully thought out job both with crime scenes, and his personal life. His “I did everything as I supposed to” sentence to Ella is Fe Si in my opinion. - Ne: Unlike people like Chloe (Si dom) Pete has no struggles of changing and approaches. He first used Ella to get insight to the police investigation, but as soon as he saw potential for some emotional reaction with her, he completely shifted his angle on things, and adapted himself to the situation. But here lies his demise, because (typical tertiary and trait) this was a half-a!ssed idea that he didn’t carefully think out, just went with the concept that occurred to him, which eventually exposed him. In conclusion: I’m the second ESFJ voter as of this moment, I hope we can change this mistype.
