There are a lot of absurd comments on this page. First, to the notion that Shakespeare may not have been real: most scholars believe William Shakespeare did write at least most of the plays attributed to him. To be clear, the question is not over whether or not he existed - he certainly did - but over whether or not he wrote his plays or if they were written by someone else. Even if he didn’t write them (which is an unlikely fringe theory), again, most scholars agree that at least most of his plays must have been written by the same person, whoever they were, as the writing style is common across all of them and is significantly different from other literature being written at the time. That means that even if the person we’re typing here wasn’t named William Shakespeare, it was almost certainly one consistent person. As for typing a person we don’t know, we do this all the time with historical figures by considering a combination of historical evidence and the texts they wrote. Shakespeare’s plays are most notable for their eloquence (the language use is beyond other drama being written at the time) and their ability to understand the breadth of human experience and express it in metaphorical ways. He could imagine what it was like to be anyone, depicting even his villains with depth and complexity, and was clearly open-minded; this is why people believe he was likely an INFP. I would say ENFP is also possible, but I think his Fi was too strong (and his Ne was generally used in his plays as a tool to hone his Fi judgments about human feeling and experience). There’s no way of knowing his type for sure, but then again, nearly all of the typings on this website could be wrong, no matter how much evidence they’re based on, because the only person who can really say which type they are is themselves.
