In Feudal Japan, he came upon a cursed armor called Hannya and a forbidden sword called Kien in his friend's antique shop. After blacking out, the next thing he realizes, he's back at home. After some questioning, he finds out that he forcefully took the set from the shop owner, but he doesn't remember, nor has any idea why he did it. For several weeks, Bishamon just stared at the armor, as if in a trance, despite concerns from his wife. Then one day he donned the armor, and all hell broke loose. The armor possessed him, and started a massacre that continued for days. When Pyron came to Earth, the energies produced by him overloaded the armor and Bishamon was set free. Vowing to prevent Hannya from taking more lives, he hides the armor and the sword, and he and his wife become monks. During the events of Darkstalkers 3, Hannya and Kien were sucked into the Majigen, where the overflowing spirit energies allowed Hannya to manifest itself once again. It took the form of Bishamon, as the armor had become accustomed to that form, but before it could begin another massacre, the real Bishamon sealed it away. He has an alternate form in Darkstalkers 3 called "Oboro Bishamon," which is what would have happened if Bishamon had mastered controlling the cursed armor, and fights you as a Secret Final Boss if you get enough super finishes and perfects.
