"Mana defies categorisation. Both in music and in fashion, his aim is to break free of norms and preconceptions and to create his own unique style by harmoniously uniting seemingly incompatible elements. His work centres on dark, profound themes, such as the powerful gothic metal music he composes for his solo project, Moi dix Mois. However, he can just as effortlessly write gentle pop tunes, as some of his compositions for Malice Mizer and, more recently, the young vocalist and cellist Kanon Wakeshima's show. Even his gothic and cute fashion is a fusion of polar opposites. A radical individualist, he wants to encourage and inspire people to trust their own instincts and be the person they want to be, no matter what others may think." Core 4 of wing 5. "Given the androgynous image he now embraces, this aversion to 'girly' things may seem surprising, but the seeds of other interests and inclinations that would later become important in his work were already present in the young child. For example, he enjoyed horror comics and fairy tales, such as Hansel and Gretel, and would later incorporate fairy tale imagery and mythological figures, such as angels and demons, into his song lyrics. His fascination with the question of what it means to be human, 'ningen to wa,' which became the key theme of Malice Mizer, was partly sparked by his favourite anime series "Youkai ningen Bem," translated to English as "Humanoid Monster Bem." It had a gloomy atmosphere and told the story of three youkai, supernatural beings who, despite often being abused by humans because of their appearance, try to protect the human population and their city from other monsters in the hope that they will one day become humans themselves in return for their good actions. He also developed a passion for vampires, another future leitmotif, whom he associated with beauty, insanity, sadness and mystery and he often watched vampire and other horror movies late at night." "In school Mana was restless and quickly lost interest in things. The only subjects he enjoyed were art and sports. He liked drawing, especially sci-fi pictures and often won prizes in drawing competitions. He also liked clay-moulding, but even more than creating something, he enjoyed destroying it afterwards because he felt that to destroy something that has a shape was art. However, his shyness created problems. He hated music classes because the children had to sing one by one in front of the class. He also didn’t like to be like everybody else. In junior high school, he joined an arts club where he was the only member. In high school, he didn't join the baseball team like most other boys because, as a shy person, feeling everybody's eyes fixed on him when he stood in the batter's area made him uncomfortable. Instead, he joined the handball team because he wanted to play an unpopular sport, not baseball or football like everybody else. When all the other students bought a certain type of backpack which he found ugly, he wore it for a while, but eventually bought a different design. The nonconformist attitude that was to become a key theme in his life and work was beginning to stir." Always a creative person, always felt wrong and misunderstood, missed being "unique". Fi dominant, Ne auxiliary. Followed by So/Sx. Not least because he always projected his shame, hypersensitivity and envy onto groups of any kind.
