Where are they? Nowhere. We are probably the first and the last sentient specie. Scientists rate the chance for complex life to appear as 10^-1000, which is actually almost zero. Like, appearing of life isn't only about star system parameters. Oxygen photosynthesis, RNA and DNA, eukaryotes are really complex and spontaneous things to appear naturally. Then it has to somehow develop into sentient life and not die in process of going into space. and of course they need to live simultaneously with us for us to communicate. scientists also say that basic life like bacterias may be quite common, though there are probably only several planets with complex life in our galaxy. so yeah guys, we are alone here.

The Fermi Paradox is an observation/question by physicist Enrico Fermi: The universe is very old. Thus far we only know of one planet conducive to life (Earth), and life did indeed arise there, suggesting that wherever life can arise, it eventually will. Given the unimaginable size of the universe, there should be millions of planets with life scattered out there, and surely thousands at least in our own galaxy. And even without Faster-Than-Light Travel, an intelligent spacefaring species should be able to spread across the galaxy in a relatively short amount of time. So where is everybody? We should be able to see all kinds of signs of intelligent alien life when we look at the stars, or possibly even evidence of alien life visiting Earth. But we don't.
