It’s pretty split between ESFP and INFJ, but Jane is a clear INFJ. It’s pretty interesting tho, because it’s not necessarily the individual functions in function stack themselves that gives it away, but the pairing of specific functions and the use of functions in stressful situations. A conclusion can also be made on the LACK of certain functions. Ni- Jane is very perceptive. Now that doesn’t have to be an Ni thing, but the way she uses it is. She realizes that the government is making more bold and dangerous moves, that’s her collecting observations. Then her Ni organizes them into one main path to be taken, which is to sacrifice herself. Self sacrifice is a very common Ni-Fe trait, which leads us to her next function Fe- Janes Fe is very prevalent in the story. She seems to be very passionate about society, the actions of those with powers, and the treatment of those without powers. She cares very deeply about Will and John, which isn’t just an Fe thing, but her willingness to completely sacrifice herself and her image in their eyes is. She left suddenly without a word hoping that she would tarnish her image in Will’s eyes so that he would move on. Like many, if not most, INFJs she has a very deep savior-martyr complex. I could see someone attempting to argue that she is an ENFJ because of the level of her Fe, but the counter argument for that would be that her Se isn’t high enough. In fact, that’s the argument against her being an ESFP as well, but we’ll get into that a little later. Ti- Her Ti isn’t as noticeable as her Ni and Fe upon first glance, but it’s around back there. She connects the dots of her Ni-Fe vision very well, and with the reaction her brother had upon hearing she was captured, it seems that she’s very adept with her ability. Skill with her ability, which seems to be some form of aura manipulation, would display Ti usage as she would have to logically understand and know how to apply her ability. Se- this is the function we see the least of in Jane throughout the story. It could just be that we haven’t seen enough of her, sure, but she doesn’t appear to use it very often and the organization of her precious functions are enough themselves to type her as and INFJ. This function is important to debunk any arguments for ENFJ or ESFP though. It doesn’t make any sense at all for her to be an ESFP if we see barely any Se throughout the story, which would be her DOMINANT FUNCTION if she were an ESFP. Along that same vein, her Se is too low to be her tertiary function as an ENFJ as well. Ni tunnel vision and Ni-Ti loop- this is where Janes typing as an INFJ really shows. As we see her in modern times in the story she seems to be stuck in an Ni-Ti loop. She’s not doing much, trapped in that lab. She has very little interaction with the outside world, so it’s safe to assume she’s not using her Fe much, and she appears to be constantly exhausted and it’s safe to assume she’s constantly ruminating on the path that she took and the decisions she made because they’re all she thinks about. Even at this point in the story she’s still acting on that path she decided on. That’s also where we can see Ni tunnel vision. She saw a path in which Will and John were protected, and she took the leap. It was possible that there were other ways, but she wasn’t able to see them. All she saw was her way. There’s also a seeming lack of well utilized Ti in her decision as her attempt to protect John and Will failed. Her DNA was used to create a weapon and that weapon harmed not only society as a whole but her son, whom she was sacrificing herself to protect in the first place. Her Ni and Fe made the best decision they could, but it led to failure and ended up working against her goal. That’s the tragedy of an INFJ; the martyr of mbti I look forward to seeing more of Jane in the story, I believe she has great potential as a character and i’m excited to see more of her.
