1/2 still baffled over the consensus. i strongly disagree with e9. i agree with his typing on the tefi+sine axis. yoshiki’s main characteristics are that he’s prone to guilt, sensitive, overthinks a lot, is deflective and secretive by default, and doesn’t share himself with others [“Opening up about myself. I haven’t done that with anyone before. (Chapter 38)”] {++ e5, pathological detachment}. the thing that has caught my attention the most is the onslaught of panels whose only purpose is to show yoshiki’s overthinking. thought bubbles where he remembers what neighbours gossiped about or kept track of (negatively), self-attacks, and regret or confusion. his superego voice is loud in less focused spreads of the manga, too. he easily feels “wrongness” and dwells for long and alone, both receptive to his own questioning and to the intrusiveness of others’ disapproval (++ e6 attachment, ++ ne inf rumination). these are things that e6 conveys distinctly: fear of making (irreversible) mistakes, fear of the unknown, fear of letting go, fear of hostility and trickery, fear of not being able to cope, fear of not surviving, fear of aloneness in a threatening world, fear of betrayal, fear of *authority*, fear of loving; the exaggerated need to rely on rational choices; insecurity, hesitation, indecision and tentativeness (a consequence of the fear of making mistakes), being paralyzed by doubt, immobilised, out-of-touch with impulse, … . these are traits of sp6 that get confused with inertia and self-forgetting of e9: “Self-Pres 6 Worry: They obsessively search to confirm what they are and what they do. The dominant fear is of failing and doing wrong; and it is so dominating that it blocks action or expression, and is as if they lacked an internal method to determine the validity of a personal choice. Prior to action, a long and troubling process leads them to ruminate with a rigidity that turns into pure inaction. The fear of judgment compromises doing, with inhibition leading them to known or comfortable goals.” “Self-Pres 6 Doubt: Connected with self-invalidation and ambivalence. They constantly devalue themselves but at the same time have a great self-concept. […] They are suspicious of others and suffer from chronic uncertainty about which action to take.” “Self-Pres 6 Self-denial: When they have to choose between what they are, between their project, put out ahead by their own efforts, and others’ projects, which is presented with guarantees of maximum support, the conservation E6 accepts the easiest solution: other’s proposals.” “Self-Pres 6 Submissiveness: […], we can see this E6 in the conciliatory personality, whose style of conflict resolution is resignation, particularly in tending to renouncing with submission. The neurotic “resignation” restricted the field of action connected with their own desires.” “Self-Pres 6 Guilt: The identification with the aggressor and introjection of an internal persecutor, to defend themselves from external threats, entail the development of a superego that constantly feeds the feeling of guilt. […].” he waited for a little less than half a year while observing ‘hikaru’ to make sure that he’s off enough to be confronted. after all, not even asako with her hearing could tell during the early period. yoshiki did not have much/any contact with the supernatural, so it’s unlikely he knew about the true extent of what he was dealing with. this indicates his default behaviour; making sure before externalising and ‘publishing’, also in part due to the threat-neutralising nature of e6. “Sixes live in the mental body as a way of avoiding fear. Because they live in the mind, Sixes lose contact with the emotions and the body, which leads to uncertainty and doubt. The issue for Sixes is movement into action; there are usually a thousand head trips between the idea and acting it out. (Fixation to Freedom)” “Over-alert Hyperintentionality: Closely related to anxiety but not identical to it is the hyper-alertness entailed by a suspicious and over-cautious disposition. […] a state of chronic arousal in the service of interpreting (potentially dangerous) reality […]. (Character&Neurosis)” ^ a fitting example: immediately after they had a tussle in the bathtub and before ‘hikaru’ even split in half and weakened himself for yoshiki, ‘hikaru’ handled the situation, yet yoshiki looked at his hand, mentioning in thoughts that it wouldn’t leave his head what he did to ‘hikaru’ and how he couldn’t be sure he wouldn’t get possessed again and potentially hurt ‘hikaru’ with his (possessed) body. despite the obvious unbalanced power and responsibility between him and the supernatural, yoshiki inserts himself with worrying, as a potential predator he wouldn’t want to be (++sp6). yes, ‘hikaru’ is dear to him, but that was his first thought, as someone both conscious of the danger he poses as well as aware of the danger ‘hikaru’ poses.
