Tobias or Tobiah (in the Book of Tobit) is the son of Tobit, a wealthy Israelite living among the captives deported to Nineveh during the exile of the Northern Kingdom of Israel in 722/721 B.C. Tobit and his family have remained faithful to Yahweh during the exile when many other Israelites have not and yet Tobit suddenly becomes blind. Tobit sends his son, Tobias on a journey to retrieve a banked sum of their money. The archangel Raphael, disguised as a man, offers to accompany Tobias, and helps Tobias partake in God's miracles of healing the woman that would become his future wife, Sarah (who has lost seven husbands due to a demon killing each on her wedding nights), exercising the cursed demon through the heart and liver of a fish and then Tobias marries her. After Tobias returns from his journey, through Raphael's counsel, Tobias heals Tobias's father of blindness by the healing properties through the gall of that same fish.
