The entire story is about him being driven by a vision of himself and a dream of the future that he had for him and Daisy, which never came true. He spent so much time obsessing over that vision that when he did eventually meet Daisy again, he failed to realize the reality of the situation: she was never going to leave her husband for him. He wasted his life by ignoring his Se. If he had stopped to think about it for a second, he would have realized that the perception of Daisy in his head was something he had built up over the years they'd been separated, not something which was founded in reality. Obvious Se-inf. I haven't watched the movie in a while though, so maybe there's a reason so many people are voting ENFJ. (I also read the book years ago, so my perception of the story is a bit mixed) Regardless, I imagine they tried to capture that underlying theme in the movie? Or maybe they did a bad job? Book Gatsby is definitely an INFJ
