had 5+ paragraphs typed up explaining his functions and the order they’re in, but my phone died and ate them! devastating tbh, but the show must go on. i’ll try to do another once over of each function, how it presents itself in his actions, and how it fits together vs INFP!! first slot- Fe dom! although i know it’s tempting to see patton as an Fi dom because thomas is an Fi aux and it’s his “supportive parent” function, patton uses mostly external morality. religious beliefs, things thomas has internalized, commonly held concepts of what is “bad” and “good”... and patton as Fe dom fits thomas’ critical parent. which, patton is! he’s trying to help, but he does a lot of guilting and pushing thomas to concern himself with others feelings before he considers his own!! patton also seems to prefer to worry about the feelings of the other sides like a “dad”. second slot- Si aux! patton is highly focused on memories and uses them to support a lot of what he believes or says. nostalgia is his specialty! he isn’t particularly future focused, but instead lives in the past!! he also exhibits traditionalist ideals, things that are known or are tried+true. prioritizing the concepts of childhood and family above most things, etc. third slot- Ne tert! there is something to be said for his connective, excitable thoughts and exciting/fun ideas. but! they are all well within the bounds of acceptable Fe and Si. he uses his intuition for personal development, when given opportunity, but it pales in comparison to the past and tradition as big focuses. patton has no use for multiple outcomes if they don’t fit perfectly within the purview of what is Good and what is Acceptable. fourth slot- Ti inf! i think his Ti is stronger than Te, but that they both feed into eachother pretty illogically and unhelpfully. he comes up with exciting ideas, but has no follow through of Te because they are pure whimsy. patton struggles to be careful with his logic or to fully think things through and often comes to incorrect conclusions. Ti in fourth means he needs help to evaluate information without resorting to stereotypes. all in all, patton doesn’t perform the hallmark internal escapism that is so prevalent with INFPs because of Fi-Ne. he may be literally already inside a mind, thomas’ mind, but he rarely retreats into himself. patton prefers the validation and security of others! the only “escape” he exhibits is with memories, but they are secondary at best and still largely involve the feelings of others!! tl;dr patton uses societal morality and the commonly held beliefs of others (Fe), often supports his beliefs via memory or traditions (Si), has bouts of excited go-nowhere thoughts/ideas (Ne-Ti), and cannot understand the logical ramifications of his actions unless they are pointed out by logan (low Te)
