Dom Ni Lex is independent, original, analytical & determined. He highly values knowledge, competence, and structure. He has an ability to turn theories into solid plans of action. He is driven to derive meaning from his visions. Lex knows the incident on the bridge is significant from the first moment. He literally senses Clark is 'special' & he is concealing his true identity. No matter how many ways/times Clark proves to him that he is normal or no matter how much he trusts Clark; he continues pursuing 'the truth.' He is a master at futuristic thinking and continually trying to outsmart his father's business proposals & dealings. His ultimate ambition is to become a global leader or president. The son of multi-billionaire Lionel Luthor, Lex befriends Clark after the latter saves him from drowning following a plunge off a bridge in the pilot episode. He is initially Clark's best friend and goes out of his way to protect him, eventually deposing his father and seizing control of LuthorCorp. However, Clark's refusal to trust him, combined with Lex's inability to overcome his upbringing and their rivalry over both Lana and how to best protect Smallville, cause Lex to slide into villainy, ending in a Face–Heel Turn of epic proportions. Defined by his obsessions and need for control, Lex can be vengeful, spiteful, and, at times, downright petty, but also has flashes of pure Machiavellian brilliance. He is a fitting Arch-Enemy for Superman.
