Edward Cullen is what an unhealthy INFJ looks like. * He door-slams Bella (ISFP) in New Moon when he speaks to her the last time before the Cullens move to Alaska. This is because he starts to feel even his own family isn’t safe for her. He also convinces his family to leave her without notice. He is in a Ni-Ti loop. He is detached and cold. He makes tough and harsh decisions in order to keep Bella safe. “Alice (ENFP) wanted to say goodbye, but I convinced her that a clean-break would be better for you.” - Edward to Bella in New Moon * When Edward moves away to Alaska, this is an example of Se grip. He thinks that Bella could be hurt by him being around and so he denies them of even seeing each other anymore. This goes for his family also. * When he hears about Alice’s vision of Bella and the cliff, he immediately goes to the Volturi to be executed. When Bella embraces him in Italy, he doesn’t believe she is real and that Alice’s vision could have been wrong. This whole scenario shows Se grip because of his inferior Se. * Edward and Carlisle have the same MBTI type in the movies. Carlisle is a great example of a healthy INFJ, while Edward is a great example of an unhealthy INFJ. Especially considering Edward is almost always in Se grip stress or Ni-Ti loop stress through-out the films. * Edward knows most people’s thoughts, but he can also understand where they are coming from and why they think that way. He even will voice this at opportune times. This is an example of Fe. * Edward is a vegetarian because he doesn’t want to hurt others. He also didn’t like being a vigilante when he only drank blood from criminals. He doesn’t want to accept the invitation to join the Volturi (vampire equivalent of royalty) because he is aware that they do not actually care about others. The Volturi don’t care about humans and they even mind-control their own members. They very much pick and choose when it comes to what is law adherence and what isn’t. Edward understands this quickly when the Volturi show up late to the fight against Victoria’s army. This is an example of Fe. * We get to see more of Edward’s healthy personality at times of peace. * It is said that the powers of a vampire are related to a human ability that the vampire excelled at in human life. Even Edward’s power of reading minds can be related to INFJ. He hears people’s thoughts when they are around him. Edward not being able to know Bella’s or Charlie’s (ISTJ) thoughts clearly is very confusing and frustrating for him. He has never had that problem.
