I just saw this movie and the entire time I was thinking wow he is the stereotypical ISTP. In fact this movie felt like Brad Pitt’s version of Top Gun Maverick. A good underdog comeback movie from a faded movie star. The whole character is him being rogue and I would like to preface that Ti can be just as individualistic as Fi is. The character’s whole arc is about him learning to be able to work as a team with others and to not be so afraid of forming attachments even though he ends the film still living life on the road. He does not care about how he is perceived and is a man of few words. This sounds like ISTP to me which of course could also be ISFP. However, does he really struggle with Te as his last function? I think his enneagram which most likely has an 8 in his tritype is what makes him appear as if he has Te in his stacks. But he does not care about being a leader necessarily. He does not struggle with lashing out at others like someone with an unhealthy Te function would. Instead, his unhealthy last function is Fe. He seems to have chosen to lead a solitary life devoid of a lot of social connections and he prefers it that way. He has left behind ex wives and girlfriends because of his detached personality and lifestyle. This could indicate underdeveloped Fe. Plus, how he seems concerned with the one blonde woman on the Pitt crew that Joshua kept on disrespecting, he refused to put up with that and kept on rallying the pit crew together as a team by having them exercise together. Also, his Ni obvious when he discusses his desire to feel like he’s flying and the constant question of what he’s doing the driving for if not for the money and his overall directionless in life. He is searching for something, a feeling deeper than fame or money as he calls it all “noise”. He also clearly has Se with his awareness of the car model and how it can be improved and his intense physicality and love and talent for racing. I know I’m relying on a lot of stereotypes right now but that’s all my tired brain can muster for now. I think the ISFP votes also come from Brad Pitt being typically viewed as an ISFP so people assume the actor is the same type as the character.
