Seems dutiful and is very capable of taking care of the physical needs of others and himself, something that an Ne user wouldn't normally find themselves doing. I'm more inclined to believe that Si is higher in his stacks. He's good at noticing others' emotions and accommodating them but poor at understanding people like Doumeki. His clashings with Doumeki can be explained by his -inferior Ti and Doumeki's dominant Ti (but that and the dom/inf Fe are also what make them complement each other)-. He is seen to scold Doumeki often for his lack of Fe. But even though he didn't like Doumeki and would openly express it, he somehow finds himself taking care of and making food for him without the need for special occasions or the presence of others. Most of his concerns seem to be directed outwardly toward other people rather than himself. He isn't really introspective nor think about himself and his stance on things like an Fi-dom would tend to do. He doesn't ponder on why he should do something ("How does this align with my moral compass? Does this feel right to my principles?"). He simply acts on what he thinks is good for people. Yes, he complains a lot about "why should I do this and that for Doumeki?" but there really is no answer for him because he knows that he doesn't really have serious qualms with him for there to be a real reason not to. His Ne wasn't well-developed in the beginning of the show/manga so even though he is observant of others, he doesn't seem to make clear connections of what is happening, especially when the supernatural is involved. Rather, he focuses more on what's wrong with the victims and how he can help so he would go to Yuuko to consult. The only thing he daydreams about is Himawari who's the object of his affection. Other than that he doesn't really display signs of high Ne. Yes, he does speculate about things but they are usually short-sighted and therefore would often be off-the-mark at first. His Si helps lead his decision-making by going off of experience because it's more reliable for him, then he corrects himself and updates his knowledge if it turns out to be wrong. He is seen to refine this function throughout the show while his Ne is being nurtured and slowly maturing under Yuuko's mentorship. He then starts to understand and make connections about things that are difficult to mentally grasp through physical experiences alone. Edit: Changed my vote from ESFJ to ISFJ due to going back to look at their shadow functions and comparing them to Watanuki's behavior. (Thanks @xxxholic for prompting me to look further into the shadow stacks to settle this for myself.) Demon Ni and trickster Te in the ISFJ make more sense than the other way around. Had to resort to this because it was a little difficult to personally distinguish between tert and inf Ti/Ne.
