Chris is doing what he does to contain the Walrider and stop it from using any inmates as a host, so that it may not break out. Unfortunately, he ultimately fails due to his failure in killing Upshur, who is then consequently used as a host body. He's locked up because he's deranged and delusional, that's a given, but he's still guided by doing what he thinks is "good" (Fi) using physical means to ascertain this goal (Se) to prevent the unfortunate future of what may happen if he doesn't (Ni).
