Brilliant portrayal of an ENTJ squaring off with an ENFJ. The unhealthy ENTJ represses his inferior Fi to the point that he pushes everyone away so he can feed his Te-Se addiction to extracting the "blood of lamb" through straightforward exploitation and intimidation. The unhealthy ENFJ feeds his Fe-Se addiction by enchanting Little Boston with his "song and dance and superstition" to gain influence over and extract money from the townsfolk. Represses his Ti and fails to recognize the chasm between Daniel's strategic prowess and his own. Both have serious Ni God complexes which each can only identify in the other, not himself, due to the repression of their introverted judging functions. From their first meeting Daniel's gut instinct is to distrust Eli's emotional tactics (Fe demon), while Eli's is to distrust Daniel's opportunism (Te demon). They lock themselves into their respective extraverted functions until they become depraved caricatures of the personas they've adopted to satisfy their cravings. Daniel ends up a savage brute with nothing to do but bully others; Eli becomes a beggar with no option but to try and work his charm on his ruthless arch enemy. And with neither man able to self-reflect, they both realize all too late that their external desires are far out of their reach, their thirsts unquenchable. I almost feel bad for them.
