Randall Spector was the youngest son of Elias and Wendy Spector, and was the younger brother of the series' protagonist Marc Spector. Back when they were still children, Marc and Randall, during a holiday trip, decided to venture into uncharted wilderness, where they stumble upon a cave. The cave started flooding, trapping Randall in the process. His brother Marc was unable to help him, despite his best efforts and thus, Randall dies via drowning. This revelation traumatized their mother Wendy, who, unable to cope, shifts the blame on Marc for deliberately letting Randall drown out of "spite and jealousy". Over the years, she became an alcoholic and became increasingly abusive towards Marc, severely traumatizing him in the process. Randall's death is a major source of guilt and regret for Marc, haunting him for years to come. And the abuse he received from his mother ended up with him developing Disassociative Identity Disorder (DID).
