SX8 fits her more I believe. Thematically, “Anora” has been described as a “neorealist screwball comedy” which is pretentious film speak for “modern screwball comedy.” Taking that into account, the film is an exploration of class differences. Anora is a woman just trying to get by, using her sex appeal to do so, given her industry (sx/sp archetypically fits the “seducer”). 8s and 2s are connected by an integration/disintegration point but she lacks the warmth, responsiveness, and helpfulness, willingness to shape shift to accommodate others we would normally see from 2s. For comparison, if any of you have seen the show “Euphoria” there is a character named Maddy, played by the lovely Alexa Demie who archetypically fits an SX2. That character is tough, but incredibly sweet, fights for her friends and given the show’s style, we can clearly see her motivation is to be loved. Ani, however, is street smart, tough, and about her bag. The Cinderella fantasy is just that, a fantasy. She wasn’t after love, but a new lifestyle. She saw how the 1 percent was living, saw her ticket and booked it. This all comes crashing down when Russian kid’s family said “nuh uh” and here we see the thematic depiction of class. She meets Igor who is also just trying to get by, following the whims of the rich. While Ani sells her body, Igor uses his as an enforcer/bodyguard. He immediately sees a kinship with her because he gets it. Rich people can be *****. Ani sees everything as a transaction. In the final moments of the film when Igor does something nice for her, she only knows how to repay him the only way she knows how. The mask of the 2 seducer. It’s just business after all. However in those final moments we see Igor try to kiss her. Ew. Too intimate. But in that moment everything just hits her and she lets it out. They embrace. Wanting to be loved isn’t the realm of the 2. That’s a human quality. This is a story about a woman trying to survive in a cruel world and being reminded where she is in the pecking order. You are not Cinderella, you are a s*x worker. Harsh reality, the world of an 8. Thank you for reading.
