Interesting how Se-dom characters like Theon who go through extreme amounts of identity-shattering trauma will often transform into Si-dom types. Same thing happens to Anakin Skywalker (ESFP) when he becomes Vader (ISTJ). EDIT: After some more thought about it I think you see this in INFP writers like Martin or Lucas, who like to punish shortsighted reckless characters by taking away their object of desire/meaning and giving them an identity crisis. For Theon this means taking away his, erm, manhood; for Jaime it means taking away his sword hand; for Jon it's about taking away Ygritte (who symbolizes unrestrained freedom); for Anakin it's taking away Padme (the last person he allowed himself to care about); for Luke I guess it's also his hand (because he had to let go of his childish notions of being a great warrior), etc. It's just that some characters learn quicker and come back stronger, while other characters give fully into despair and become loyal to a new identity. The Se-Ni axis falls apart in the absence of the person or thing which gave their free-spiritedness meaning, and with nothing else to latch onto they give in to unquestioning servitude. Meanwhile the trauma hits them so hard they can barely even look at themselves in the mirror, so to speak. It reverses their judging functions so that the extraverted one is on top, shown in Theon, who goes from an independent/self-interested Ti preference to a sensitive, submissive Fe preference; and Anakin, who goes from a headstrong/morally-conflicted Fi preference to a cold, businesslike Te preference.
