This argument contains spoilers for Epithet Erased Prison of Plastic, clearly. My vote looks absolutely insane compared to the current consensus, but this is what happens when people type characters before actually reading the material they are from. Even based off of the promotional material, I can't really see where the INFJ consensus came from, and I especially don't understand how people didn't immediately get the E1 stereotype vibes. She's like a mini Percy. Obviously this doesn't stand on its own as an argument, but let's examine the major character moments with Phoenica, shall we? Phoenica doesn’t have a lot of major moments in this current book. She’s got specifically: the Neo Trio prologue where she gets mugged, forming a friendship with Rick Shades and all subsequent interactions with him, her showdown with the Spelling Bee, and trashing the kitchen with Trixie. Let’s look at the traits we can figure out from these situations. Phoenica is first of all, extremely naive. She has a very idealized image of the way the world should be, and she has extremely high expectations that people are doing their part to contribute. This is what causes her to not be on her guard when she is put in dangerous situations. She expects that everyone will be nice and do their part, so there is no need to fear. When people deviate from her expectations, her response is anger. I don’t think people realize just how angry Phoenica can get, seeing as she was typed with a 9 fix. “I get it now!” she said, “You’re . . . a bully!” The word most people would’ve chosen was “mugger.” “I know how to deal with bullies!” Phoenica declared. She cleared her throat and recalled the word-for-word message that the VHS tapes had taught her: “You are only mean because of society and your own personal trauma. Let us stop this horrid cycle of violence! I will take the first step. Here: I forgive you.” Phoenica hugged her. “Wait a moment,” Phoenica gasped, “You’re using someone else’s knowledge to do your homework? That’s . . . that’s cheating!” “It’s not cheating. You’re helping me! Whatever my friends can do, I can do! That’s the power of friendship.” He said the word “friendship” as though it were a poison that he had slipped in someone’s else’s drink. “No!” she protested. “If you are indeed a cheater-cheater-pumpkineater, Rick Shades, then I am afraid that I . . . I cannot be friends with you!” These situations happen often. It is one of Phoenica’s most defining character traits. She needs everyone to do the right thing, and she cannot associate with people who won’t change. Although she is extremely forgiving, she needs to either delude herself into thinking the person can change, or needs proof that they will. These moments are, however, undeniably moments of anger. She shouts at people, she causes a massive scene, she’s like a little mini Karen. This isn’t characteristic of someone driven by a need to not rock the boat, nor are they characteristic of someone driven by a need to be liked. Phoenica doesn’t really think about how she comes across to the people around her. She just acts. In fact, Trixie thinks far more about how she is viewed by others than Phoenica ever has. This also proves that while she is led by external judgment, it is not external judgment based off of the feelings of the people around her. Phoenica is led by a strong set of logic that is dictated by the external world. This is what Te is. Te isn’t about efficiency or aggressiveness or being domineering. It is about having a strong set of logical convictions based on the logic of the external world. They need proof of how those around them should act, they need proof of the logic that everyone should ascribe to. Phoenica is led by this logic as opposed to the emotions of others. While she is *extremely* sensitive to the feelings of others, she never allows those people’s emotions to sway her decisions unless the criteria of them changing their bad behavior is met. I am willing to hear out arguments for TeNi as opposed to TeSi, especially because MBTI is not my usual wheelhouse, but as of right now, I see more Si and Ne working together in how she operates, with her using familiarity as a way to judge what is good and what is not, and her extremely abstract ways of connecting words in her mnemonic devices so that she can memorize them and familiarize herself with them. This isn’t a full or extensive argument. But I wanted to finally document my thoughts because my vote is so opposed to the current consensus, especially being the only person to vote her as logic > feelings.
