Long answer, I'll have to divide it in 3 posts. Se / Ne : When comparing his low grades and high IQ results, 2 abstract measures, an INTP would be very likely to come to the conclusion that if he has a high IQ that means he's smart as it's the best indicator of intelligence available, whereas grades don't mean much as they're a measure of how hard you work. They would therefore be likely to come to the conclusion that it's the school system that's stupid, not them. An ISTP could go either way, and in his case he does go the other way (rather drastically) by saying it's stupid to think having a high IQ means someone is smart. IQ and grades are both just numbers on a piece of paper, but a high IQ by itself doesn't lead anywhere as opposed to good grades that can land you a good job. That means IQ tests are the more abstract of the 2, and he pretty much wipes his ass with them. An INTP would be very unlikely to reach that kind of conclusion as Ne is the function that's the most interested in the abstract. It's not the only time he shows some disdain for the abstract. He has a literal god in his bedroom and at no point did he ask any question related to death or the after life (or lack thereof), he only cares about what concrete use the death note can have by human beings standards.
