Let's not jump to the idealized-story-absent-wife stereotype! Penelope is a Fi user, and here's why: "I'm supposed to choose a suitor to wear the crown" - "I'd rather lie than allow them to think they've won": Here we have a first approach to her subjective ethics, as she knows a social expectation has been placed on her, but instead of giving into the collective, she privately plots against them, resorting to trickery and deception to defend her own interest: not letting anyone take her husband's place. She doesn't let others dictate what she should do, but she lets them believe she does because that's what best serves her, all the while she does what she wants behind their backs. (Meanwhile, Odysseus, as a Fe user, goes by objective morals that thinks everyone should follow: "what good would killing do? when mercy is a skill more of this world could learn to use" - later translating into "Ruthlesness is mercy upon ourselves, and if don't I know this well", "I'll become the monster". This is mercy and ruthlessness being perceived as standards, taught by others -Polites and Poseidon-, that he learns to live up to). "Oh, could it be some kind of sign that my world is all about to change?" - "Cause I'd rather die than grow old without the best of you. Though I never thought that these would be the lengths we'd go for love, I would not have it any other way": There's a focus on her inner world, rather than what Odysseus absence represents for the kingdom (while Odysseus' focus is on the world around him and his role in the collective: "my kingdom is waiting, Penelope's waiting for me" - "when does a man become a monster?" - "If I became the monster, and threw that guilt away, would that make us stronger? Would it keep our foes at bay?"). "Though I never thought that it would come to this, just know I'll be here buying you time" - "Just know, I'll be here waiting": Again, the narrative is approached from a personal perspective, in regard of her connection to Ody. When she refers to him, she does so in the form of a dialogue between Odysseus and her, demonstrating a focus on one-on-one relationships, which is Fi valuing (which contrasts with what Odysseus does, as he is more often than not referring to Penelope and Telemachus as 'my wife and son', as if third parties, highlighted in the collective). Later, on WYFILWMA, we get to see her reaction to Odysseus arrival, facing him again. "If that's true, could you do me a favor? Just a moment of labor that would bring me some peace. See that wedding bed? Could you carry it over? Lift it high on your shoulders and take it far away from here": Instead of running to his arms, she is guarded. She is not letting her emotions lead and overtake her, but she has a rather reflective approach (Te-Fi), and tests Odysseus before opening up to him (in opposition to how Fe is reactive). "No matter how long it's been, you're mine. Don't tell me you're not the same person. You're always my husband and I've been waiting, waiting": Finally, the last demonstration of her Fi valuing, as she disregards whatever Odysseus did, how long they've been apart, or that he thinks he's a different person; she decides that only she will be the judge (introverted judging) of whether or not he's her husband, and she accepts him by her side because he's the one she loves and the only one she will ever love (Fi valuing and loyalty, something that can be seen in plenty other tertiary Fi users; take for example Gabriel Agreste). Instead of being caught up in the idea of love itself as a Fe user would (let's remember that Ody sees her as his 'wife', as the person who plays that role), Penelope is focused on the object of her love, which is Fi (in other words, to Ody, his wife is Penelope, and to Penelope, Odysseus is her husband). *Why Ni>Si?: Even though she has the sx5 nostalgia, she's focused on the future, caught up in the abstract vision (hope, as idealization) that her husband will come back (and even if he doesn't, she doesn't let anyone take his place, which is, again, abstract for her subjective perception of what that means to her). Even more so, when she has a reason to believe Odysseus finally returned (which is in itself a demonstration of her intuition), she already had a plan for how to proceed, showing that she had anticipated that moment. And I think the way she tests Ody later is pretty self explanatory.
