it’s been 3 months since my previous comment, but Nora is an ISTP and here’s why: Ti - when presented with a problem or dilemma the FIRST thing Nora turns to is statistics or logic. when Alex comes to her with his bisexual crisis she lists out all the logical pieces of evidence of why Alex would like men. it’s like she views the world as a statistics problem Se - Nora definitely has Se, but i don’t think she’s an Se dom. she uses her Se to interact with her friends and in social situations (dancing w/ Alex at the new years party, doing backup karaoke, the whole *thing* with June and Pez, etc.), but Nora uses her Ti for everything, social situations included! Ni - one of the biggest reasons why i think Nora is an ISTP is because i don’t believe she has inferior Ni. Nora uses her Ni in her statistics work, it goes hand and hand with how she uses her Ti. Nora observes a situation (Se) a theory comes to mind based on what she observes (Ni) fits her observations together with all previous knowledge as she knows it to see if her theory is correct/makes sense (Ti). Nora is someone who often predicts things long before they happen, we’re both told this and shown this in the novel. if Nora was an ESTP she wouldn’t use Ni in this way. Fe - finally i think that Nora has inferior Fe. yes, Nora is very outgoing and makes friends easily, but she has a hard time giving others comfort and showing genuine concern to others through her emotions even if she does feel it. this is shown multiple times, but the two examples that come to mind is 1) when Alex and Henry got outed, instead of going to comfort Alex or help him through it emotionally, she helps the way she helps best: analyzing data to find out what happened and who was the person to out them in the first place (Ti) and 2) near the end of the novel on the day of the election when Alex is having a mini-panic over what tie to wear Nora says “Look. You know I’m not good at the whole, like, tactful emotional communication thing, but, uh, June’s not here, so.” she out right admits to the fact that she has a hard time communicating emotions with other people and directly relates it to June (who’s an Fe dom). Anyway, that’s my mini essay on why Nora is an ISTP. If you type by letters then Nora definitely would be an ESTP, but if you type by cognitive functions then I 100% believe she’s an ISTP! remember that social introversion isn’t the same as cognitive introversion.
