His more pragmatic attitude to de Sade's philosophy stereotypically aligns with what people think of as Te in regards to solely caring about the structure and efficiency of a system rather than the people it serves: Justine: ‘Oh, Monsieur! With such principles, the unfortunate must surely perish!’ Dubourg: ‘What does it matter? France has more subjects than it needs. As long as the machine of state runs smoothly, what does it matter how many individuals it sustains?’ In a Jungian case, this would be a fairly simplistic view of Te but I believe it works within socionics' view of Te, especially given him being the one to try and tell Justine that due to her age, she's only valuable in so far as she can sexually service those that desire her since she'd be incompetent at any other form of work. The distinct lack of feeling can also be showcased when Justine tries protests from her virtue and he just amorally rebuffs her through detached reasoning and starts to essentially advocate for eugenics based upon fairly utilitarian reasons (which is also stereotypically associated with Te for focusing on maximum output on the environment without regard for sentiments or inner principles and reasonings): Dubourg: “ ‘What does a father care for the love of children that are a nuisance to him?’ Justine: ‘It would be better, then, if we’d been stifled at birth!’ Dubourg: “That is indeed the custom in many countries. It used to be the case in Greece, it still is in China, where unfortunate children are left out to die or are put to death. What’s the point of allowing creatures to live who can no longer count on the support of their parents, either because they have been deprived of them or because they have not been accepted by them, and who are nothing but a financial burden on a state that already has more than it can bear? Bastards, orphans, deformed children should be put to death at birth; the first and the second because, having no one who can or is willing to take care of them, they soil society with a scum that can only become fatal to it one day; and the others because they can be of absolutely no use to it. Both of these groups are to society like those fleshy excrescences that suck the sap from healthy branches, weakening and destroying them, or if you prefer, like those parasitical growths that attach themselves to healthy plants, eating away at them and damaging them by feeding on their nutritive seed.’ I think the line of him telling Justine ‘Why complain of your lot, when the remedy lies in your own hands?’ can act as a good summary of all this.
