They're not 8s, they're counterphobic sixes. They attack out of fear, not because they want to assert dominance or because they're inherently evil. In the comic they see the survivors as monsters due to the green flu.

Common Infected (referred to in The Parish and The Sacrifice comic as Whiskey Delta, meaning Walking Dead, by the Military) are the most frequently faced members of the Infected, and the easiest to defeat. Their strength lies in the fact that they attack in groups, more commonly referred to as a Horde, sometimes as large as several dozen.
