What's interesting about Sick Boy is that despite being an objectively horrible human being, he's adored. Unlike Begbie, who lots of people find disgusting because of his violence and sociopathy, most people (both readers and characters in the story) love Sick Boy despite the fact that he is a devious womaniser who doesn't care for anyone but himself and a narcissistic sociopath with an incredibly large yet fragile ego. Even with his laundry list of flaws, he is loved because of his specific brand of Type 7 zany charm. Sick Boy is a man who, in his internal monologues, often speaks with a goofy 'Sean Connery James Bond' voice. He carries a dictionary around with him and always picks a complicated word of the day to impress people and make himself look smarter. He's constantly coming out with sharp quips and is always quick with something witty to say. This mixture of strange and charismatic idiosyncrasies, combined with his good looks and manner of speaking, is why his blatant narcissism and sociopathy are easier to stomach than the likes of Begbie. In the first half of the Skagboys novel, Sick Boy gets closer to a family who are grieving a lost father. He ends up sleeping with both the mother and the teenage daughter, convinces the mother to do a life insurance scam that ends up getting her arrested, continues to sleep with the teenage daughter which leads to her getting hooked on heroin, and then, when his addiction worsens, he starts to pimp her out so that they can get money to buy more heroin. Truly despicable stuff. But because of the way he acts, he is forgiven for sht like this way easier than the other Trainspotting characters, leading to his permissiveness only growing and his scheming antics persisting. All in all, Simon "Sick Boy" Williamson is a character who, like his nickname suggests, does sick things. But his style of Gluttony allows him to move through the world, convincing both himself and others that he isn't anything more harmless than a wily charming rogue.

The Deuteragonist of the story, an Italian-Scots charmer who's obsessed with being the sexual alpha of the group and making money via cons without recourse to violence. Amoral, stylish and Mark Renton's oldest friend, Sick Boy is a borderline-sociopath and born exploiter who only feels disdain for his friends and for society. He has an obsession with Sean Connery, and enjoys showing off with his ability to casually use heroin and stopping without developing an addiction. Sick Boy considers himself superior to everyone else he interacts with. In the story, he represents cold and calculating pragmatism without any moral restraints.
