He feigns niceties, a certain air of innocence, whilst goading Hinako into substance abuse. He is glad to use machiavellian methods to make Hinako dependent on him, as he canonically enjoys stripping her of her own will to dominate her. This is the true self-serving type of man that Ryukishi warns women of throughout the game, the type of man that aligns very well with Naranjo’s neurotic portrait of a self-preservation 2: helpful, cheeky, and seemingly innocent, yet all the same desperate for affection and willing to manipulate others to establish their sense of superiority.
