He doesn’t seem like a Fi-dom/INFP to me, since he has been following a single trajectory or vision from the past to the present. Hakyung doesn’t seem to explore many ideas or possibilities, which would normally be expected from auxiliary Ne. For instance, Hakyung gave up on piano before even trying because he believes it’s not useful and is too costly. That might seem more like a Si dom being very practical about life. But Hakyung, who I believe is a INFJ, actually views the whole situation as a coherent trajectory, essentially a life principle: for things I can’t have or don’t need, I give up quickly because there will be no loss and life will not become worse, so therefore don’t start. This is a very clean prediction about both the event itself and his own feelings, something a Ni dom would usually do. Now, could it still be Si dom? Possibly, but I doubt a Si dom would be so firm about an uncertain future. With inferior Ne, they would more likely branch into messy possibilities. Hakyung, however, is very firm. This belief has been his life principle since a young age and is applied to almost everything, not just a situational judgment. INFP tend to pay less attention to what others think due to inferior Te. But Hakyung shows the opposite tendency. His focus is not purely internal but directed toward the external world. His decisions are often made to benefit others or avoid conflict while still maintaining his boundaries, which looks more like a Fe-Ti dynamic. What I’m actually unsure about is whether he’s a Si dom or Ni dom. I read both the novel and the manhwa. Although there aren’t major changes in the adaptation, there are subtle differences. The novel sometimes makes him look more like a Si dom because it connects subjective feelings with memory impressions. However, I suspect this might be influenced by the plot elements (reunion and nostalgia) and the narrative device of associating past and present for storytelling. Hakyung is very observant. He relies on experience and notices patterns, which could point to either Si or Ni. He is also quick at coming up with excuses and shows strong situational awareness. So it’s more useful to look at how he gathers and processes information. After the reunion, Hakyung is worried about Yoonseung recognizing him. Because of this, he begins both intentionally and unintentionally collecting scattered information about Yoonseung (which could be Se or Si): Yoonseung’s expressions, how seriously he treated a “stranger,” and the car accident. All of this is to determine whether Yoonseung actually recognizes him. His thinking process resembles assembling a puzzle of Yoonseung, a big-picture view (as shown in both the manhwa and the novel) which leads him to conclude that Yoonseung has been living happily after forgetting the summer they spent together. Even though a puzzle could technically be solved sequentially (as Si dom might do) or through pattern convergence (as Ni often does), I think Hakyung’s thinking leans more toward Ni dom. He doesn’t rely on past experiences to interpret these new pieces of information. Instead, he internally assembles scattered clues such as Yoonseung’s expressions with assumptions like the resemblance to his ex and the car accident like snapping puzzle pieces together to reach a conclusion, rather than moving step-by-step from A to B to C. Another way to type him is by looking at his inferior function. ISFJ have inferior Ne. If it develops well, it allows inspiring ideas to enter a stable life as Si’s experience becomes a base for exploration. That doesn’t seem to be the case for Hakyung (as shown in the piano example). If it’s insecure, inferior Ne can make ISFJ rely only on past experience, resist new changes, and become plagued by “what if” anxieties. That also doesn’t quite fit Hakyung, since he is extremely fixated on predicting the outcome of introducing a new hobby into his life, to the point that it becomes a life principle. For INFJ with inferior Se, if it develops well, Se can support Ni-Fe by gathering concrete data from the outside world and helping them remain flexible and effective in social situations. This actually explains why Hakyung is very good at coming up with excuses by using Se to feed his Ni-Ti “excuse engine.” Because he is highly aware of the physical environment (the wet umbrella, his bar etiquette), he can anchor abstract lies in concrete facts, making them difficult for others to challenge. At the same time, his Se is not fully mature. It sometimes appears as a form of hyper vigilance. This can explain why, when removing important traces such as photos of himself, he intentionally leaves behind useless traces. He understands that the absence of evidence can itself become evidence of a crime. A Si-dom could theoretically do this as well, but Hakyung has never done it before. Instead, he seems to reach this strategy through meta-level reasoning about how suspicion works.
