Michal is a female character in the Bible's Book of Samuel, She was a princess of Israel, as the youngest daughter of King Saul and the first wife of King David, whom she loved. When King Saul was trying to murder David, his rival she helped him escape the palace bedroom using a rope he used to climb out of the window, hiding a statue under her bed and claiming it to be her sickly husband. During David's fourteen year exile, her father married her to another man, Paltiel of Gallim, where she eventually lost all feelings for David. Michal later reunited with her first husband when David asked Michal brother's King Ish-bosheth, for his first wife back to ensure peace between the both of them. She went on to scorn David for dancing in an undignified manner, as he brought the Ark of the Covenant to the newly captured Jerusalem in a religious procession. This lead David to openly criticise her and abandon his husbandly duties to her.
