I think we can all agree that his core motivation to do literally everything is fear. He's an anxious little black cat lol. I can understand him though. He aims to build up security, to self-preserve his "luck" (which is his understanding of what happiness is from his past eight lives), by stealing and covering up his own past. Even to the point of lowering his friendship with Bob and keeping a distance from Sam. He avoids intimacy like the plague, that's SX blind.
