This is best shown in how her concerns when it comes to Ayame hanging with Bobby is not just because it would interfere with their plans but because she doesn't want Ayame to get hurt or to lose one of the few people she cares about. Mai may not be as nice as Ayame and may act like she doesn't care much but she does care.
