Kotaro is still ultimately driven by his subjective perceptions and experiences. Everything he does is what he has seen before and has worked in his eyes, and he is attempting to recreate (the ball throwing, dressing up like the fashion magazines because he believes he will be loved, his impressions of Tonosaman) and it’s definitely more Si > Ni. I understand the people who are saying this is his traumatic response, but even still, I fail to see Ni in him in his daily routine. It's all Si. His routinely behavior to take the public bath everyday even though it costs money? The way he said he would go to sleep recalling Mizuki’s scent because it would bring him pleasant dreams? Keeping the camera because it reminded him of Ryota? Him remembering there was a familiar mark in his old house with his parents? When Mizuki was slapped by her boyfriend, he didn’t use Ni to think of any alternative solutions but the one that worked for him in the past – fleeing the apartment for safety. When Tasuku asked him for money, he saw right through his façade because he noticed his finger was twitching and relayed this back to his living situation. His whole character is driven by Si. He definitely prefers Te over Fe too. He views things based on his formulaic standards (‘That was a decent bath, indeed.’ / [giving money to the lady] ‘This is for you. You did not earn this.’) Again, Fe is more based on communal values and the what the group desires, and Te is more based on an intellectual formula the user abides by to ensure everything runs smoothly. Kotaro uses the latter, I would say. He views things from a logical standpoint (‘It is irresponsible of this store not to hire someone with more muscle.’), and his Te comes off as him trying to help alleviate the burden of the people around him, believing this is what works for everybody according to his formula. He wants to ‘repay’ people back because he believes it’s only fair for him to conduct himself in this manner. Notice how he barely pays attention to anyone’s emotional expressions and how cordial they act. He sees right through it and confronts them, seeking the truth instead. He abides by his rules and duty to the point of not being able to understand anything that opposes it, like how Takei wanted to hold the umbrella, but he still protested saying he's the umbrella holder, or when he asked his friend why he could showcase his weaknesses so easily, because he believes he shouldn't be "weak". As for his Fi, he views things accordingly to how he feels and his sentimental value towards an object. Like when Mizuki was crying when she was drunk, he said (‘My opinion of you would not change if you were crying. Crying is not weak.’) It shows Kotaro’s moralistic viewpoint of things, he’s unfazed by what other people perceive to be on the social realm. His personal attachment to Tonosaman, his gratefulness and gratitude towards the “people” that gave him money, how he secretly likes Karino’s drawings but won’t admit it…he’s a strong Si-Fi user. In episode 2, when he asked for help for his bento, although he always did it by himself, Takuya complains it’s not as pretty as the previous one, however Kotaro neglects his words. He’s using his Fi to determine his bento’s worth and value because to him, it’s the first time he received ideas and support from strangers in making them because he always made them himself. In episode 5, Karino’s boss takes him to a toy store and he basically denies wanting any of the Tonosaman toys despite clearly yearning for them because of his Te/Fi axis – he wants it, but doesn’t think he deserves it because he’s taking it away from people, and that’s going against his formula. In episode 8, he reveals he kept his mother’s gloves because it’s a very sentimental object he refuses to throw away. When Takei protests this, he still stands his ground and keeps them. Lastly, inferior Se over Ne? He doesn’t seem like he has issues of separating himself from reality. Saying he can’t catch a ball means he has inferior Se makes zero sense. He kept repeating the same catching action over and over thinking it will work. That’s Si at its finest. Other than that though, I see Kotaro’s inferior Ne rising in the form of being unable to deviate from his routine – when the public bathhouse closed for renovations and he couldn’t sleep for days. When Mizuki said she might move out, Kotaro immediately consults Karino on how to make her stay, even goes to extreme lengths and select her at the night club because he’s scared that she won’t stay with him forever. The most extreme cases would be when he eliminated any possibility of his photos being taken because he’s afraid his father will track him down, or when he was arguing with that kid with parents that ditched him. Overusing dominant Si to recall his mother’s words about them meeting again that he doesn’t even comprehend the other kid’s perspective.
